A luau (in Hawaiian, lu'au) is a Hawaiian feast. It is a gathering of friends and family to enjoy food, drinks and entertainment, such as Hawaiian music and hula or just to have a good time. Among people from Hawaii, the concepts of "luau" and "party" are often blended, resulting in graduation luaus, wedding luaus and birthday luaus, to name a few.

In the Northeast we love to have cookouts. Why not mix it up with a Luau cookout? Grab some leis and grass skirts and go crazy. Add some tiki torches to create a fun lighting environment (side benefit is that they help keep the bugs away!) Get the kids involved by having a limbo or dance contest. Setting the scene starts with special invitations to get people to show up. Follow through with cups, plates and table settings with a luau or island theme.
